Today we discussed our current progress in the project, and
what we aim to achieve in the following week away from school (half term
break). We briefly considered establishing our own record label (that would
sign an artist like COSMO), and Kaitlyn came up with the name 'vinyl' (later
adapted to 'vynl') and it really stuck for being short and sweet, punchy
and effective like COSMO. vynl has been established by us as an independent
record label that signs unique up and coming artists; operating like Dirty Hit
Records, vynl is on the hunt for artists that stand out from the pool of
tediously similar mainstream artists.
To create the logo, after browsing through a number of
different fonts online, I settled on 'thiamine', which I downloaded from
dafont.com; I then typed 'vynl' with the font into Microsoft Word, with 'TM' in
Calibri Body, used Snipping Tool to take a screen grab, opened in Paint.NET (a
free-download alternative to Adobe Photoshop, and drew a square around the
text. I also creates an alternative with inverted colours.
I think that 'vynl' is an appropriate name for a
professional record label; appropriate to our concept, it reflects the era of
vinyl records, with playful modernisation. Likewise, the logo design is
convincing, for being influenced by actual record labels:
